Open free PDF editor

Your PDF stays on your device.

Folio performs PDF editing in your browser. Opening a document does not upload it to a Folio document server.

Ebooks and text

EPUB, text, Markdown and HTML files are read and edited locally. Book previews block scripts and remote resources. When you open an ebook from the PDF editor, the file is briefly stored in this browser’s IndexedDB storage so the ebook page can receive it; it is removed from that transfer store after reading. If navigation is interrupted, the pending file may remain until the ebook editor is next opened or browser site data is cleared. Edited ebooks stay in memory until downloaded.

Optional local PDF drafts

Local drafts are off by default. If you enable them in More tools, Folio saves one PDF recovery copy in this browser’s IndexedDB storage. This includes any unlocked document contents. Anyone using the same browser profile can restore it. Turning automatic drafts off keeps the saved draft; use Delete draft to remove it. Clearing site data also removes it. Drafts are not uploaded and do not replace a permanent download.

Scientific data

The scientific viewer reads HDF5 and NetCDF files on your device in a background browser worker. It reads selected portions of the file and keeps temporary previews in memory. Your scientific files, variable names and values are not uploaded or included in analytics. The HDF5 and plotting libraries are served by this website when needed. Close the file or tab to release the reader. CSV, metadata JSON and plot images are generated locally.

CAD drawings

The CAD viewer reads DWG and DXF files locally in a background browser worker. Drawing data stays in this tab and is released when the drawing is closed, replaced or the page is refreshed. The DWG reader is downloaded from this site only when needed. CAD drawings and their filenames are not included in analytics. PNG snapshots are generated on your device.

Documents and signatures

The editor keeps your open PDF, form values, annotations and signature images in memory in the current tab. These are used locally to render and update the document. Downloads are created by your browser. Closing or refreshing the tab discards its in-memory working copy. Download your edits or explicitly enable a local draft first.

Website requests

Your browser contacts this website to load its pages, scripts, fonts and optional text-recognition assets. Those requests do not include the contents of your PDF. Like other hosting services, the website’s hosting provider may process connection information, such as IP addresses and request details, to serve and protect the site.

Accounts and tracking

Folio does not require an account. Folio uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure page views, visits and website performance without analytics cookies. These statistics do not include your PDF contents, filenames, form values or signatures. The editor does not include advertising scripts or an online document library. Optional recovery drafts and temporary ebook transfers use browser IndexedDB storage as described above. The OCR library may cache its selected language data on your device; that language data is not your document.

Fonts and open source

Additional fonts are hosted with the editor and loaded when needed. Folio uses open-source software, including MuPDF and Tesseract. You can download the application source and read its third-party notices and licence.

Your downloaded files

Downloaded files are saved according to your browser’s settings and remain on your device until you remove them. Folio does not send them to anyone. Choose your own sharing method when you are ready.
